I bought this because previous plastic-bodied fountain pens I have owned have split due to repeated opening and tightening when refilling. This stainless one should last longer. I have had a few Parker fountain pens and never had any reliability problems on the writing side.

Brilliant cheap fountain pen, great for a starter or everyday use, 19 Oct 2011

I have used this pen for over two years at uni, it gets thrown around and I dont do any maintenance on it however it has worked first time every time I have used it and doesnt look battered. This pen is an economy pen , it is at the very low end of proper fountain pens, in in regards to the previous review saying parker are no longer the quality they were, yes they are but not for less than a tenner! I own several (ok loads of) pens, some vintage including parker and yes this cheap pen is not the quality of a more expensive pen but it is still a good starter pen, I actually love it for uni. This pen only takes Parker Quink cartridges which are more expensive than basic ones however there inks are pretty good, or you can convert this to use bottled ink using a “parker converter” and the bottled inks work out cheaper in the long run and you can get a larger choice of colours.

The nib is stiff and should stand up well to use by a child or somebody coming from a ballpoint pen.

When using a fountain pen relax and remember the weight of the pen is the only pressure required to write, dont “grip” the pen as you would a ball point just hold it gently so it doesnt fall and write with it. Writing for long periods of time with fountain pen causes no discomfort once you have learnt to use it properly. Also please avoid using £1 or £2 fountain pens as this are dreadful and do not offer a good experience.

In short, this is a great pen for the price and a great introduction to the world of fine writing.

I had a Parker pen that I bought many many years ago; its still in use. It shouts quality; even putting the cap on, has a nice feel. The pen writes superbly…The modern day stainless steel pens, although adequate, do not give the same writing experience.
